Competitive Analysis for a Europe based Industrial Equipments Company
Executive Summary:
As a part of Competitive Benchmarking exercise, the client asked Onward to calculate characteristics of their competitor’s pump. Onward Laser scanned the internals of physical pump supplied and made 3D CAD models. CFD analysis was then performed on these CAD models to predict the complete Pump Characteristics.

One of the leading International Manufacturer of Pumps based in Europe supplying Pumps for diversified Industry
Business Issue(s) Addressed:
The client needed performance data of their competitor’s pump to benchmark performance of their own design, which would reduce the time-to-market; development cost of new product & also quantify competitive threats.
The targets set to Onward were:

Prepare accurate 3D CAD Models of Pump Housing & Impeller from the physical pump supplied. |

Calculate the Performance Characteristics of the Pump & compare them with the characteristics supplied by client |
How Onward Helped:
The following steps were taken to complete the project:

Dismantled the pump |

Using combination of CMM and Non contact type Laser scanning, measured all dimensions and captured features of Impeller and Volute of housing |

Prepared 3D models and 2D drawings of Impeller and Housing |

Prepared a new assembly drawing of Impeller and Housing with stuffing box assembly of one of the existing pump models |

Carried out CFD Analysis to simulate fluid flow through the pump and obtain performance characteristics |

Compared the performance curves with the curves supplied by the client |
